Travel like the Thais

After a whirlwind of our first morning in Thailand and visiting two, very touristy, markets and being stuck in three hours of traffic inside the city of Bangkok, we were excited to move away from the city. In attempts to keep the first half of our trip, unscheduled for the most part, we moseyed to the Bangkok Train Station.

Bought two tickets north to Ayutthaya, in third class, went in search of some ice cold smoothies and waiting to board our train. The train we were scheduled for was nicknamed the “commuter train”, and we found out why. As we cursed ourselves for boarding the train so dang early, towards the end of the trip, we were very very pleased that we had seats. By the time we left Bangkok, the train was completely packed with people standing in every empty area possible. The fan in our car was broken, the windows were open, and we sat there sitting in our sweat for two hours.

It was an experience that we didn’t wish for, but it was also quite unique to join the Thai’s in their local commute.
